“All Are Welcome”
“All Are Welcome” is a site specific window installation created for the Akin Vitrine Gallery of the Akin Collective in December and January of 2017/18. This piece combines my interest in the iconic Canadian Landscape and the relationship between it and new comers to our country. The Canadian Landscape has always captured my attention and has been a source of inspiration and wonder but I have considered that it must represent quite different sentiments and feelings in people who are new to this continent and way of life. Camping for us is a recreation and a way to explore our wilderness and have a vacation whereas camping was a necessary form of housing in a much bleaker setting in various countries of origin for some of these newcomers. What must they think and how do they imagine interacting with this vast, open and beautiful country. Do they feel welcome?
